The L’Chaim Collection is built around an original font inspired by the Hebrew alphabet and reinterpreted as English lettering. From the Garment District to Katz’s Delicatessen, Jewish culture is woven into the history, character and everyday language of New York City. Generations of New Yorkers have grown up seeing Hebrew lettering and hearing Hebrew and Yiddish expressions—whether they understood them or not. They are part of the visual and verbal texture of old New York. For this collection, NY State of Mind founder and designer Brett Stein reinterpreted the forms of the Hebrew alphabet as original English lettering—honoring that legacy through a distinctly New York lens.
